'Wine and Hot Water' - was my first solo exhibition. It was shown at the Gabriele Senn Galerie in Vienna from 19 November 2021 to 29 January 2022 during the pandemic.
For this exhibition, I revisited the theme of still life, focusing particularly on tabletop arrangements. Small plastic animal figurines, dice and a kettle appear in settings that evoke both games and systematic constellations. Immersed in blue light reminiscent of the sea or sky, the animal figures depict living creatures yet appear as lifeless objects. Here, the still life - nature morte oscillates between the living and what we believe to be inanimate matter. The dice, placed on stone slabs, are photographed in ordinary light within a nocturnal atmosphere. By contrast, the flamingos were photographed in daylight at the zoo. They are alive and outdoors, yet unable to fly away. Each group is held in its own stillness and separation — a space that can be looked into, but not entered. The work is an inquiry into isolation and the longing it gives rise to, and into how the gaze and the camera set things apart while simultaneously bringing them together, creating a sense of belonging.
